Why AI Squared?

AI isn’t going anywhere, and that’s why teens deserve better advice than “Don’t use it to cheat”.

They deserve to learn how to work effectively with AI. Just like they get taught how to use Google or Wikipedia, and how to use calculators.

AI is going to be critical for the development of teens all over the globe, and for their future success in life and work. Critical thinking and AI literacy skills are going to be the foundation of their success.

Luckily, this isn’t just speculation. There’s real evidence behind it. The latest academic research in 2025 demonstrated that, if used correctly, ChatGPT can lead to a learning improvement equivalent to jumping from the 50th percentile to the 81st percentile.

AI Squared is focused on helping students become like Student B, not Student A — using AI as a thought partner to learn more effectively, with a real understanding of how to work with it and its limitations.

A four-panel comic illustrating students' experiences with AI in education. In the first panel, Student A asks the AI, 'Write it for me.' In the second panel, Student B looks confused, questioning with a speech bubble containing '?? ?' from a laptop screen. In the third panel, Student B receives a failing grade, expressed by a paper labeled 'F.' In the fourth panel, the teacher praises Student B's AI-generated work with an 'A+' grade.

Student A asks AI to write their essay and learns nothing. They'll bomb the test and feel lost in class discussions. Meanwhile, Student B uses AI to explore different perspectives on their topic, checks confusing concepts, and organizes their thoughts. They write their own essay, but it's clearer and stronger because they used AI to think more deeply.

Geoff Gibbins, Author

Geoff Gibbins is a Managing Director at Board of Innovation, a global AI consultancy. He has Master's degrees from the University of Oxford and Imperial College London. He has a pre-teen son and lives in Manhattan.

He has nearly 20 years of strategy and innovation consulting experience, and previously served as a Managing Director at Accenture - and has designed and built AI-powered products and human-AI collaboration systems for companies such as Walmart, Vanguard Group, Nestlé and the Coca-Cola Company.

Like many parents nowadays, Geoff found himself constantly talking with others about AI and what it meant for education, students and the future of work. In business meetings, when out for dinner with friends… nearly every day. He noticed that the conversation around teens was very limited, and that the same lessons from corporate AI adoption could help teens as well. AI Squared is the result of that exploration.
